Egypt
Problem statement
There are at least three most recent topical issues posing a security threat in Egypt that necessitate the need for response within the field of Mine Action:
- Mine/ERW contamination issue in north-west Egypt where construction works are planned (also the construction of a new part of the Suez Canal).
- The presence of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), especially in the northern part of Sinai Peninsula, and the lack of local expertise to deal with the issue.
- Rehabilitation of mine victims.
What we do
Between 2009 and 2013, ITF has been involved in Egypt with projects in the field of humanitarian demining, including capacity building and victim assistance. Recently, ITF has been actively engaged to restore cooperation with Egypt, in order to assist the country in mine action activities.
For more information on ITF’s activities in Egypt, we welcome you to consult our Annual Reports, while for the plans in the forthcoming year please consider our Portfolio of Projects.
